The Dakota Hunter Book Release

The Dakota Hunter Book Release
One man’s quest to find the last vestiges of an icon in aviation history…

It was with great pleasure and an honour for me to receive one of the first copies of Hans Wiesman’s newest book, ‘Dakota Hunter’.

(Thanks to Frits for this photo!)

Being longtime friends with Hans and having worked with him many times as photographer to capture his life as an adventurer and Dakota Hunter, his enthusiasm and knowlegde of these incredible planes, but most of all his love for the Dakota, always impressed me. Not only that, but because Hans is a dedicated Harley-Davidson rider too, we seem to have a lot in common.

Normandy, June 2014 70th Anniversary D-Day

Last year we made a memorable trip to the 70th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, where we had the unique opportunity to photograph Hans ‘Dakota Hunter’ on the Holy Battle Grounds of Normandy on an old Harley-Davidson in front of a Dakota, bringing his two lifetime
passions together in one picture.

Today, we were at Vliegkamp Valkenburg, near The Hague, where we met in front of the Dakota that plays the leading role in the Musical Play ‘Soldaat van Oranje’. That’s where Hans gave me his book ‘The Dakota Hunter’- ‘In Search of the Legendary DC-3 on the Last Frontiers.  He signed it for me and as you can see, we made some nice shots.

The book is an adventure, once you start reading, you can’t stop. Great photography, well documented history and the weirdest and strangest story’s about Hans and his hunt for Dakota’s makes this book not only very interesting but it also reads like if you’ve been there too. A must for everybody who’s into history, adventure, planes and engineering.

                                     Thanks Hans!
