Velorex, Hannigan, Vetter, Champion were brands among the field of over 50 side car rigs last Saturday at the National Motorcycle Museum. The East Central Iowa Sidecar Association staged their 10th annual Sidecar Rally at the Museum. Rigs and their owners from five states plus Iowa were on site. Local newspaper journalist from the Journal-Eureka, Becky DirksHaugsted gave event organizer John Dennis a big hug. “It was her first ride ever in a sidecar rig,” said John. “We went out for about a 20 mile group ride and Becky was thrilled!”
A good number of Harleys were present including a ’65 Panhead and a ’78 Shovelhead, even a V-Rod but their were much older machines as well including a truly antique Henderson with a sidecar. There was even a fully fabricated custom pulling a sidecar. Hall of Famers Mike and Margaret Wilson came up from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mike offered, “It’s a marvelous event at a great place. I’ve always enjoyed sidecars.” Mike and Margaret’s Harley FXRS based rig is on display in the Museum currently.
